Made it safely to Plimmerton, staying at an adorable backpacker (hostel) on the Tasman Sea (view from my room and everything - 50 bones goes a long way in this teeny town). The waterfront here is insanely beautiful, just like Raumati beach was. I still don't have a camera and don't know that I yet have the words to do the scenery of NZ justice. It's like you're suddenly only dating supermodels, and you have to compare their beauty.
I think it's time I stop hating on the internet (yes Thatcher, I've heard your gospel). I put a $2NZ coin in the computer (= 20 minutes) and sent requests to a bunch of farms (there's over a thousand listings on the NZ WWOOF website, lotsa pics, super easy process). Went to lunch (crazy cajun fish conconction with a spicy orange chutney and a mound of sour cream - turns out to be amazing), and came back to offers from a tree farm and blueberry farm/land trust/art studio/cafe (reminiscent of Haley House). The tree farm is in Nelson, and is run by a newly-divorced man, which is a red alert situation (also reminiscent of my lovely last job in Seattle). The blueberry farm is close to Wellington, and I think I may want to stay near the city long enough to spend a few nights out dancing before I bounce to the South Island. Also, as I've been typing this, I received an offer from this place. Time to do the sort-out dance.
It's incredible to be in a position where strangers easily offer such kindness, and where my life can change rather dramatically as often as I wish (so far that appears to be daily).
Elated, and running~

I hope one of those offers works out better than the first gig! I'm glad you keep on keepin' on!
ReplyDeletego work for a beekeeper!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks loves! By the by B there were bees at the crazylady's hilltop house of beauty, on a temporary stay. This older gent, a local beekeper, apparently runs them around to people's houses for free, to help with their gardens I presume. He came by to retrieve the hive while I was there -- no gloves, no mask, just a truck full of hives. Amazing stuffs. The honey out here is different, only had a bit so far, but of course the energy bars with makura are amazing..
