December

I arrived in New Zealand last November (5 months, 3 weeks and 4 days ago-ish, not that I'm counting down). At first I urgently documented my every thought, and gulped down my air in the form of supportive comments from all y'all. Somewhere around the end of December, I adjusted to the freakshowness of life on the road, and blogging became less pressing than, well, living.

Now I have lived a lil, and I get to tell stories. First up is Paekakariki, the cutest damn town in all of New Zealand I do believe. Leah - a beloved fellow WWOOFer from the Blueberry Farm '09 crew - and I made Paekak an Xmas Eve trip. For those of you without Facebook (and bravo!), here's what it looks like:

The town looked like a movie set. Everything you needed could be obtained in a one-block radius, and within 3 blocks of the beach. There was a Christmas pardade that went by so quickly we couldn't take a picture. It was a white pickup truck with 5 or 6 Santas in the back, followed by a golf cart populated by people in orange safety vests. I wrote a haiku to celebrate the occassion:

Only 5 Santas
Passed to quickly too capture
What *is* a parade?

Christmas Day I took a bike ride to the graveyard. Yes, I like to hang out in graveyards. Good perspective.
